Larry Hogan was born in Washington, D.C. and moved to Florida with his family as a teenager. He graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor's in government and political science.
Hogan became Maryland's second Republican governor in 50 years when he was elected to his first of two terms in 2014. A moderate Republican, Hogan's approval ratings climbed throughout his tenure to almost 80 percent by the time he left office.
Prior to that he had helped on campaigns for his father, U.S. Rep. Lawrence Hogan, founded a property consulting and investment company and served in Gov. Bob Ehrlich's cabinet from 2003 to 2007.
His campaign emphasizes a desire for bipartisan cooperation.
